James Irwin is a Senior Associate working on COWS' energy efficiency and green infrastructure projects, including the Efficiency Cities Network, Emerald Cities, and CHERP. Prior to joining COWS, James advised the campaign of Seattle Mayor Michael McGinn. James worked as Conservation Program Manager for the Sierra Club in Washington State, where he worked with volunteers and allies to run and win conservation and political campaigns, focusing especially on transportation and clean energy issues. He led the Sierra Club team that in 2007 defeated a road-heavy transportation package and in 2008 helped secure $18 billion for the expansion of light rail in Seattle. He has also worked as a business analyst, and got his start community organizing around HIV/AIDS prevention in rural Minnesota. James is a graduate of Brown University.
